«The Downfall of Hamar»

In 2017 it is half a century since Martin Luther put up his thesis on the church door in Wittenberg. This was the start of a radical change in the European society.

Due to the Reformation in 1537, the Medieval town of Hamar ceased to exist. The last Catholic Bishop in Norway, Bishop Mogens, was taken prisoner and his fortressed home transferred to the King. Later a Swedish army attacked the castle, leaving it all in ruins.

Our new exhibition which is telling the dramatic story of the downfall of Hamar is situated in the Storhamar barn.
